Transit. Green living. Community.

Join us in shaping the future of a new mixed-use development at 1800 Weston Road.

The proposed development will introduce a new mixed-use building designed by award-winning architects BDP Quadrangle. The project will significantly transform the pedestrian experience of its frontage along Weston Road while delivering high-quality residential units.

Community Consultation Meeting

Thank you for joining us at the in-person Community Consultation Meeting, hosted by the City on June 27th.

Our Project Objectives

How are we measuring success?

Project objectives are what we use as the measuring stick to determine if we are successfully achieving what we set out to do.

These are our preliminary project objectives:

  • Develop new housing near the Weston GO/UP Express station

  • Design a transit first development

  • Design residential units to support a variety of demographic groups, including families

  • Respond to the existing and planned built form context (existing and future buildings in the area)

  • Create a range of commercial/retail opportunities along Weston Road

  • Incorporate green and sustainable design features in the proposed building

  • Enhance the public realm by establishing a ground floor animated by active uses and "eyes on the street" along Weston Road

  • Create a respectful relationship with the adjacent tall buildings

  • Contribute to widening the public right-of-way along Weston Road with enhanced and improved sidewalks

  • Protect for smaller, flexible sized units that may be used for social enterprise/start-ups

  • Protect for larger retail units that can accommodate grocery uses

Why preliminary and not final? We are still in the very early stages of the project, which includes bringing on technical team members who will assist in developing the concept design. As we explore different concept design approaches, we may realize that there are additional project objectives that should be included in our list. Also, community stakeholders may have additional project objectives – we would love to hear from you!

If you have any feedback on our preliminary project objectives, including any additional project objectives that we should add, please send us an email at 1800Weston@castlepointnuma.com. You can also email us to join our mailing list to be among the first to receive an invitation to our community meetings. Alternatively, check back here as this project website will be regularly updated.

Once we have confirmed our proposed concept design, we will organize a Public Open House to share our proposal and collect your feedback.

Castlepoint Numa’s History in Weston Village

Back in 2016, we entered into a partnership with the Weston Park Baptist Church to realize a transformative vision for 1871, 1879 and 1885 Weston Road at the corner of Lawrence Avenue and Weston Road. You can stay up-to-date on the Weston Park project. Over the years, we have hosted a number of community events, from ice cream socials to cooking competitions, and we have supported events such as Winterfest 2021, Buskerfest, Neighbors Night Out, and many more. Castlepoint Numa will continue to support community-building initiatives in Weston. Check out our community activations.

In 2019, we started assembling the lands for the 1830 and 1800 Weston Rd developments. The official submission for 1800 Weston Rd was made in Q1 of 2023. These exciting developments fulfill Castlepoint Numa’s vision to transform both sides of Weston Road and ushering in the next phase of urban renewal.

Frontlines

Castlepoint Numa is an ardent supporter of Frontlines. When their previous rental building was damaged in a storm in the spring of 2020, Councillor Nunizata asked us if there was anything we could do assist in finding them a temporary location. We worked quickly to move them into our property at 1798 Weston Road, and invested in additional upgrades to the property to assist Frontlines in realizing their programming aspirations. These upgrades included building out a restaurant quality catering kitchen, cleaning up and securing the rear yard, and creating a side yard for outdoor seating. Castlepoint is committed to assisting Frontlines well in advance of the initiation of the future construction program to ensure that they have a suitable new location to continue their vital community programming.
